The Urbana University volleyball team snapped a season-long 6 match losing streak on the road on Tuesday night, defeating Mountain East Conference foe Notre Dame College in four sets 25-21, 25-19, 13-25, 25-22.
The Blue Knights' last win on the road came three weeks ago at Lake Erie College. The Falcons fall to 4-24 on the season, including 0-2 against Urbana. The Blue Knights defeated the Falcons in 5 sets in the Grimes Center four weeks ago.
Notre Dame needed a win to tie the Blue Knights in the MEC standings. Instead, Urbana increases their lead to 2 wins over the Falcons. With two weeks left in the regular season, the Urbana occupies the 9th position in the MEC. Notre Dame sits in the cellar at 2-11.
Pacing the Urbana offense on Tuesday night was junior outside hitter Brooke Turner (Ft. Loramie, Ohio). Turner smashed a match-high 13 kills in just 25 attempts. She logged no errors for a career-high .520 hitting percentage, the sixth highest single-match mark in the program's D-II era. Fellow hitter Chelsea Winderl (Columbus, Ohio) added a double-double, finishing with 10 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore setter Mary Hendricks (Urbana, Ohio) handed out 35 assists in addition to her 8 digs, and libero Kaci Eurez (Delaware, Ohio) finished with a team-high 17 digs.
After 5 straight matches on the road, Urbana (8-17) returns home on Friday night to host the nationally ranked Cardinals from Wheeling Jesuit University. Still undefeated in the MEC, the Cardinals swept Urbana in Wheeling last weekend. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
