Chieftains defeat Pirates in Rally for the Cure volleyball (Audio included)

Kenzie BrunswickPink was the dominant color in the Bellefontaine High School gym Monday night.What has become an October tradition for county volleyball teams, Bellefontaine and Riverside recognized breast cancer awareness with their Rally for Cure festivities and match to follow.

Bellefontaine raised nearly $180 for the Susan G. Komen fund and local charities.Bellefontaine head coach Tara Zedeker’s team sold T-shirts, had a bake sale, and a 50-50 drawing.In addition, players from both squads were introduced and presented a flower to a family member in the audience prior to the game.Both teams wore special Rally for the Cure shirts for the match.

In the varsity match, Bellefontaine cruised in 3, winning 25-14, 25-15, 25-14.Seniors played a big role in the victory.Carley Strzalka was nearly perfect with 28-29 serving and 6 aces.Jordan Lininger had 30 assists. Jazmyn Haley had 5 solo blocks. Kam Haley killed 14 balls.Junior Kenzie Brunswick blasted 11 kills.

Riverside, which has only two seniors, was led by juniors Kerri Meade and Brooke Hickey.Meade had 7 points (including 4 aces), 6 digs, and 4 kills. Hickey chipped in with 8 assists and 7 digs.

Carley StrzalkaWith the win, Bellefontaine has won 7 of their last 9 matches to improve to 12-8 on the year.They play at home Tuesday night against Tipp City in a Senior Night contest.

Riverside drops to 6-14.They play Lehman Tuesday and Upper Scioto Valley Thursday.

In the junior varsity contest, Bellefontaine won in 2, 25-9 25-6.Kassidi Sullivan had 4 kills. Emma Smith was 23 for 23 serving with 10 aces. Savannah Bryson had 6 assists.  The JVs are 8-11.Riverside has yet to register a win.

Other volleyball:

The West Liberty-Salem varsity girls defeated Greeneview in 4 sets: 25-13, 21-25, 25-15, and 25-18.

Rachel Loffing recorded 4 solo blocks, 11 kills, and 13 digs, Kylee Hormann tallied 2 solo blocks, 11 kills, and 11 digs, Jamie Peterson totaled 5 solo blocks and 21 kills, Rachel Ritter had 14 digs, and Kylie Gilroy delivered 44 assists and 4 aces.

The Lady Tigers improve to 11-9.

The West Liberty-Salem JV beat Greeneview in 2 sets: 25-20 and 25-20.

Kelby Strapp tallied 4 digs and 4 aces. Kiana Reames had 2 kills, 3 assists, and 6 aces.

The JV Lady Tigers climb to 7-10.

Jr. High:

The West Liberty-Salem 8th grade topped Triad in 3 sets: 25-22, 21-25, and 25-23.

Allie Yoder tallied 14 points and Laura Roman contributed 10 points.

The West Liberty-Salem 7th grade won over Triad in 3 sets: 25-5, 11-25, and 25-20.

Kaylee Harrison totaled 16 points and Arrah Sandy added 12 points.
