Lady Chiefs and Lady Tigers set school records on the track

The Bellefontaine girls track team won the Benjamin Logan Invitational Friday night.

Brenda Johnson broke the shot put record at BHS with a 40' 10" heave. The previous mark was set by Jae Meadows in 1990 with a 39' 7" put.

Other first-place finishers included Alexa Haushalter in pole vault, Jessica Kinchen in the 100 hurdles, the 4x100 and 4x200 relays of Regan Price, Kinchen, Kameren Haley, and Ashley Artis, Price in the 200, Kameren Haley in long jump, and Amber Jones in the 800.

The Bellefontaine boys team finished sixth.

The Chiefs were led by Ryan Dunn's second-place finishes in the 800 and 1600, Chantz Rose's second in the shot, Chase Wilcoxon's second in the pole vault, and Blake Olson's 3rd in the 3200 run.

The West Liberty-Salem girls track team went to two different meets recently.

The younger athletes went to Benjamin Logan and the varsity squad went to the Wayne Invitational. Both meets' results are on http://www.finishtiming.com/

Two school records were broken at the Wayne Invitational.

Abigail Rabenstein set the school record in the 100 meter hurdles on Thursday (prelims) with a 16.31. The old school record was set by Lisa Tracy in 1986.

The 4x100 relay team (Michaela Rausch, Abigail Rabenstein, Megan Etgen, and Morgan Freyhof) set a new school record in the 4x100 on Friday with a 51.48. The old record was set in 2001 by Leann Gascho, Laura Kerns, Emily Buffkin, and Abbey Freese.

Meghan Vogel has been diagnosed with mono, so she did not run the 1600. She's on the road to recovery and will be back at full strength by District.

Head coach Ann Vogel said, “The Wayne Invitational was an excellent opportunity for the girls to get out of their comfort zone and compete with some of the top D1 and D2 teams in the state.  We didn't score a single team point, but when you come away from a meet with two school records and several season-best performances, I feel like we accomplished what we set out to do.  I feel the meet was a great way to prepare the younger girls for the postseason.”

Relay team members:

4x800 - Jasmine Smith, Alyssa Strickland, Shawnda Henault, Meghan Vogel

4x200 - Darby Thomas, Rausch, Freyhof, Rabenstein

4x400 - Rabenstein, Vogel, Thomas, Freyhof
