Chiefs sweep County Track Meet; Lady Tigers dominate Champaign County Meet

The Bellefontaine girls and boys teams won the Logan County Track and Field Meet at Indian Lake Tuesday night.

Head coach Ben Davis said, “The boys stepped it up in the field events to reclaim the team championship that Benjamin Logan has held for a couple of years. Coach Butler's crew has a nice team this year.”

“The girls were business as usual as we try to stay healthy for the league meet in 2 weeks."

The Calvary Christian Spartans high school track team competed in their first Logan County Meet.

Girls Highlights:

Maria Salmonowicz 1st 1600m (5:56.6) New School Record, and 2nd 800m (2:54.0)

Nathalie Thompson 5th 400m (1:30.0)

Boys Highlights:

4X800m (Josh Wilt, Ben Tanner, Peter Printz, Scott Brunson) 4th (11:25.0)

Head coach Lee Reinhard said, “We are a small, young team. Because we will not be competing in a conference or district meet this year, we tried to gear our season and kids to think of this as our peak meet. We wanted to perform our best today. Each of the kids did just that. The highlight of this effort was to see Maria Salmonowicz improve her best 1600m time by 18 seconds to win the event."

Calvary Christian will be competing at the Raider Invitational at Benjamin Logan on Friday. This will be the Spartans last high school meet this season.

The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team won the Champaign County Track and Field Championship meet Tuesday at Graham High School.

WLS racked up 177 points, followed by Urbana 94, Mechanicsburg 46, Triad 18, and Graham 17.

Sophomore Maddie Gantz highlighted the evening for the Lady Tigers setting a new school record and winning the discus with a throw of 111'4". Gantz also won the shot put.

Other two event winners for WLS were Morgan Freyhof in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, Abigail Rabenstein in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles and Meghan Vogel in the 800 and 1600 meter runs.

Also chipping in first places were Megan Etgen in pole vault, Alyssa Strickland in the 3200 meter run, the 4x200 relay team of Darby Thomas, Savanna Shipp, Michaela Rausch, and Rabenstein, the 4x100 relay team of Rausch, Rabenstein, Etgen, and Freyhof, and the 4x800 relay team of Shawnda Henault, Caylee Karg, Strickland, and Vogel.
