Kyle Crawford scattered eight hits and did not allow a run in going the distance on the mound for West Liberty-Salem Friday, as the Tigers whitewashed the visiting Riverside Pirates 3-0 in non-league baseball action heard on 1390 WBLL.
Crawford received the Steve Austin's Auto Group Player of the Game honors with his shutout performance. He struck out six batters and walked only one.
The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the fourth when the Tigers' Spencer Whitcraft got the hosts on the board with an RBI single. As it turned out, one run was all that Crawford would need, but the Tigers plated two more in the in the bottom on the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Cole Wilson and an RBI single by Matt Ulmer.

The visitors had their chances in the game, but failed to capitalize, leaving eight runners on base. Jake Herron and Conner Cotterman each had two hits for the Pirates.
West Liberty-Salem is now 2-2 on the year and will host a doubleheader against New Bremen Saturday at 11 am.
Riverside falls to 2-4 with the loss and returns home where it will also host a doubleheader Saturday against Fairlawn, with the first pitch scheduled for 11 am.
The Pirates have a special game Sunday as they will travel to play at Fifth/Third Field, the home of the Dayton Dragons. The Pirates are scheduled to play Dixie with the first pitch at 4 pm.
Bellefontaine defeated visiting Vandalia-Butler 6-3.
Senior Josh Clifton earned the win.
Tyler Shamblin and Trent Nicholl each drove in two runs.
The Chiefs are 5-0. They will visit Springfield Shawnee on Monday.
Kenton outscored Indian Lake 13-8. The Lakers are 2-1.
Tecumseh blanked Triad 9-0. The Cardinals are 5-1.
The West Liberty-Salem JV team outscored Riverside 20-11.
Austin Secor had three hits, including a pair of doubles.
Logan Woolley and Layne Bowman each recorded three hits.
In varsity softball, West Liberty-Salem beat Riverside 2-0.
Melany Ward earned the win and drove in a run.
Courtney Milliron opened the scoring with a solo blast in the first inning.
The Tigers are 1-4; the Pirates are 3-3.
Triad swept Urbana, winning 6-5 and 6-2.
The Cardinals move to 5-2; the Hillclimbers are 0-6.
The Benjamin Logan Gold Jr. High team defeated Allen East 6-3.
Kinzie Jones earned the win with a five-hitter.
Addie Rodenberger had three hits and an RBI, Tahlsa Bowsher recorded two hits and two stolen bases, and Zayla Marshall, Brieanne Frasier, Leanne Regula, and Taylor Keen each added a hit.
