Updated: Chiefs squeeze by Tigers in 8; Pirates roll

The Bellefontaine Chieftain varsity baseball team defeated West Liberty Salem 3-2 in 8 innings at Blue Jacket Park. The game was broadcast live on 1390 WBLL. Brandon Wilson, in relief of starter Josh Clifton, (pictured left) got the win. Clifton pitched well in the chilly weather. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and walked only one in 7 innings. Clifton was named the Steve Austin's Player of the Game. Kyle Crawford was the tough luck loser for the Tigers allowing just 4 hits in 7 plus innings of work.

The Chiefs plated the winning run on a squeeze bunt by Matt Entsminger with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the eighth inning.

For Bellefontaine, Trent Nichol had 2 RBIs. Drake Roebuck scored 2 runs and stole 2 bases.

Max Bailey and Cole Wilson both doubled for West Liberty-Salem.

This was the Tigers first game of the year. Bellefontaine is now 2-0.

Bellefontaine beat West Liberty-Salem in the JV game 16-2.

The Riverside Pirates varsity baseball team got their first win of the year by defeating Ansonia 17-1 in 5 innings. Jake Herron was the winning pitcher striking out 7.

Dustin Proffitt doubled and homered and knocked in three runs. Dalton Bollinger tripled and three RBIs. Tanner Lane doubled and had 2 RBIs. Landon Kelsey had 2 hits and 2 steals.

Riverside is now 1-2.

The Benjamin Logan Raiders varsity baseball team opened their season with a 4-1 victory over visiting North Union.

Kam Newland was the winning pitcher. He pitched 6 innings striking out 3, giving up 2 hits and 1 earned run.

Zane Collins was 2-3 with 2 RBIs. Collen Pulfer had an RBI.

In varsity softball, Riverside rallied past Ansonia 3-2.

The Pirates scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Taylor Nichols hit a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in Karli Castle for the game-winning run.

Christyn Wietholter fired a two-hitter and struck out seven.

The Pirates are 3-0.

Benjamin Logan fell to perennial power North Union 13-7.

The Wildcats scored eight runs in the sixth inning with two outs to erase a 5-4 deficit.

Senior Brooklyn Terrill had a big night for the Raiders. She was 4-for-4 with three RBIs.

Benjamin Logan will visit Ridgemont on Wednesday.
