The area's most successful softball coach has resigned after a decade of dominance.
West Liberty-Salem softball coach Lanay Cordell (formerly Detwiler) has decided to step aside to pursue her master's degree.
Cordell (pictured), a WLS elementary teacher, led the program from '03 through '12. During those ten years, her teams compiled a record of 242-40.
WLS reached the Final Four in '08, '10, and '11. The Tigers fell to Hillsdale 2-1 in the title game three years ago.
West Liberty-Salem dominated the OHC, capturing nine league titles.
Under Cordell's leadership, WLS seven sectional and district titles and three regional crowns.
The school quickly named Cordell's successor. Longtime assistant Dennis McIntosh was hired by the school board earlier this month. He was the head coach from '92 through '01. McIntosh has been the head girls basketball coach for nearly twenty years.
