Blue Knights avenge loss

Two weeks ago in West Virginia, Davis & Elkins College defeated the Urbana University men’s basketball team 85-73. On Saturday afternoon, Urbana avenged that loss in the Grimes Center, dealing a 74-65 blow to the Senators.

Urbana opened the game on a 10-0 run. The lead reached 16 on Ramel Mitchell’s three-pointer eight minutes into the game. From there, the Blue Knights kept the Senators at bay by out-rebounding their opponents 51-35 and knocking down 21 of 24 free throws.

Mitchell finished with a game-high 17 points to go with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. His backcourt mate, junior guard Danny Goins, poured in 14 points and pulled down 6 rebounds. Sophomore forward Dusan Komljenovic scored the game’s first 6 points and finished with 11. Six different Blue Knights grabbed 5 or more rebounds, led by sophomore Casey Baker’s 10 boards.

Urbana improves to 9-10 overall and 4-2 on their home floor. Davis & Elkins dropped their fourth straight contest, slipping to 3-11 on the season.

The Blue Knights return to conference play on Wednesday night, traveling to nearby Central State University for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. Urbana is 0-1 in the G-MAC after dropping its conference opener 78-61 last Saturday against Cedarville. Central State sits at 1-0 in conference play after taking down Trevecca Nazarene on the road last Saturday. The Blue Knights and Marauders split a pair of meetings last season.
