Family commitments prompt Lakers' Starr to resign

David StarrIndian Lake High School is looking for a new varsity boys basketball coach.

Head coach David Starr officially resigned earlier this week.

Starr served six seasons with the Lakers.

With four young sons, Starr plans to spend more time with his family and other work duties.

He said, “This was a tough decision for me. I have loved my time as a Laker, but I feel I'm doing what's best for my family. I feel that the program is in a better place than it was when I first arrived. I have been blessed to coach some great kids here at Indian Lake and also made some good friends.

“I would like to thank the administration and the community for helping me build this program. They’ve respected me and my coaching staff and the parents have been very supportive.

“Most importantly, I want to thank all of the players who invested their time in me and the program. I’ll truly miss my time in practice and on the sidelines with them.”

Starr compiled a record of 67-73.

Indian Lake Athletic Director Jeff Courter says he has confidence in the coaching staff that remains in place and the head position will be posted soon.
