Updated: WL-S 8th grade tops OHC – Saturday basketball

Jr. High basketball teams are wrapping up their seasons. Several area teams were in action this weekend.

In high school play, the Riverside varsity boys team fell to Ansonia 43-42.

Lane Willoby led the Pirates with 11 points. Wyatt Auflick added 10.

The JV Pirates lost 55-30.

Kaden Burk was the leading scorer with 10 points.

The varsity team is 8-12 on the season and 3-4 in NWCC play.

The Bellefontaine varsity boys lost at Northmont 43-38.

The Chiefs fall to 9-11 overall and 6-6 in the CBC.

The Ridgemont varsity girls defeated Riverdale 61-46.

The Gophers outscored the Falcons 24-10 in the fourth quarter.

Senior Priscilla Howland had 24 points and 7 rebounds.

Faith Jenkins recorded 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Ridgemont moves to 12-8 overall.

Jr. High finals:

The West Liberty-Salem 8th grade girls team went 17-0 on their way to back-to-back OHC championships, beating West Jefferson 40-16 to defend their title.

The Lady Tigers were led by Emily Hollar's 21 points and 6 steals.

Aubrey Williams chipped in 8 points and 4 rebounds.

The Bellefontaine 8th grade boys won a thriller in the first round of the CBC tournament, rallying past Jonathan Alder 38-37.

The Chiefs trailed by 6 points with just over a minute left in the game.

Alex Pulfer led the Chiefs with 14 points. Drey Carter had 13 points.

Connor Gamble hit the game-winner on an assist from Liam Harris.

The Benjamin Logan 7th grade girls team lost in the CBC championship game 46-9 to Tecumseh who finished 19-0 on the season.

Cheyenne Peterson had 3 points.

Reese Plikerd, Elliot Bailey, and Kiley Daniels each added 2 points.

The Raiders end the season at 15-4.

Both 7th and 8th grade boys Riverside teams were bounced out of their league tournaments Saturday.

The 7th grade Pirates lost to Marion Elgin 42-31.

Walker Whitaker scored 27 points and had 13 rebounds in the loss.

The 8th grade Pirates lost to Upper Scioto Valley 40-21.

Deven Frilling, Jayden Burchett, and Zach Armbruster each had 4 points for Riverside.

The 7th grade Lady Pirates dropped their first round game vs. Waynesfield-Goshen 27-20.

Jade Copas led the Pirates with 16 points.

Zaria Deleon paced the Tigers with 14 points.

The Tigers play Ridgemont in the second round Wednesday.

Riverside finishes the year 5-9.

The 8th grade Lady Pirates handled Hardin Northern 34-11 in the first round of the NWCC tournament.

Olivia Perk had 14 points.

Kara Kauffman added 8 points.

Riverside will play Lehman in the second round on Tuesday.

The Calvary Jr. High boys ran past the Ohio Eagles in Harrod 49-21.

Blake Wish put in 9 points along with 7 rebounds.

Calvary finishes the regular season with a 20-1 record.

They enter their tournament next weekend as the #1 seed.

Sunday youth finals:

The West Liberty-Salem 4th grade boys lost to Northeastern 17-11.

Carson Poppe had 4 points.

The 4th grade boys handled Emmanuel Christian 47-4.

Brevin Louden had 12 points, Carson Poppe scored 10 points, Levi Miller tossed in 6 points, and Jake Lauck added 5 points.

The West Liberty-Salem 5th grade boys fell to Northeastern 33-21.

Hunter Knotts scored 10 points. Caleb Hershberger added 6 points.

The 5th grade boys outscored Emmanuel Christian 33-22.

Hunter Knotts had 8 points, Jayden Temple and Isaiah Reames each dropped in 7 points, and Isaiah Reminder added 5 points.

The WL-S 6th grade boys lost to Northeastern 42-27.

Eli Allen had 11 points. Sam Lauck poured in 6 points.

The 6th grade boys beat Emmanuel Christian 28-11.

Owen Deere had 7 points.

Eli Allen and Sam Lauck each added 4 points.
