Updated: Monday basketball roundup - Lady Raiders’ rally against Springfield falls short (Audio included)

Stevie PlikerdThe Benjamin Logan varsity girls basketball team rallied from an 8-point halftime deficit, but fell just short and lost 54-52 to Division I Springfield Monday night.

The host Lady Raiders led 13-10 after the first quarter. However, the Wildcats surged to a 32-24 lead after two quarters thanks to a 17-point first-half effort from freshman guard Mickayla Perdue. Perdue came into the game averaging 31 points in the team's first two games (both victories).

Benjamin Logan switched to man-to-man in the second half. Stevie Plikerd was assigned to guard Perdue and the senior was successful holding Perdue to just one second-half point.

Nikki Current at the lineSenior Nikki Current carried the offensive load in the third quarter scoring 12 of her game-high 35 points cutting the Wildcats’ lead to 4, 42-38.

The Lady Raiders cut the lead to two in the fourth and had several chances to win in the closing minutes but were unable to make the needed basket.

In addition to her 35 points, Current had 12 steals.

Benjamin Logan struggled against Springfield's full court pressure turning the ball over 20 times.

The Lady Raiders were 12 for 19 from the foul line.

Benjamin Logan coach Donnie Sosby was optimistic that the game will help his relatively young squad prepare for upcoming CBC play.

The varsity Raiders are now 2-3.

The JV Lady Raiders lost their fourth game in four tries dropping a 52-23 decision to Springfield.

Sophomore Katelyn Shellenberger had a team-high 11 points.

The Riverside varsity girls lost at Triad 56-41.

Marissa Davis tallied 14 points and 14 rebounds and Shelby Giles added 13 points.

For Triad, Alea Ferguson totaled 16 points, Cati LeVan tallied 15 points, and Emma Vanninen contributed 13 points.

The Bellefontaine varsity girls fell to visiting Kenton 71-31.

The Lady Chiefs are 1-2.

On Saturday, the West Liberty-Salem JV Lady Tigers topped Miami East 38-34.

Mya King recorded 13 points and Payton Umphires had 11 points.

Jr. High finals:

The Benjamin Logan 8th grade girls beat Bellefontaine 32-26.

Haleigh Brentlinger had 17 points and 9 rebounds. Jennifer Naragon tossed in 8 points, Kaycee Cook scored 5 points, and Kerry Copenhaver recorded 2 points and 8 assists.

For Bellefontaine, Emma Middaugh, Tayteum Vigansky, and Katie Pool each had 6 points. Carmen Shumaker added 4 points.

The Benjamin Logan 7th grade girls steamrolled Bellefontaine 34-2.

Kiley Daniels and Kenzee Congrove each had 8 points. Rhea Harner, Kendra Kennedy, Elliot Bailey, and Chyanne Peterson each tossed in 4 points. Caitlin Blumenschein added 2 points.

The Raiders will travel to Urbana on Thursday.

The Lady Chiefs will host Lima Shawnee on Tuesday.

The West Liberty-Salem 8th grade girls blitzed Mechanicsburg 34-10.

Emily Hollar recorded 12 points and 8 steals and Gabby Williams contributed 11 points.

The 8th grade Lady Tigers improve to 2-0 and will host Fairbanks Thursday.

The West Liberty-Salem 7th grade girls lost to Mechanicsburg 35-22.

Ayva Stewart, Kenzie Bahan, and Aubrey Laing each secured 6 rebounds.

The 7th grade Lady Tigers fall to 2-1.

The Riverside 8th grade girls beat Hardin Northern 18-9.

Olivia Purk had 8 points and 5 rebounds.

The Pirates improve to 1-2.

Riverside travels to Fairlawn Thursday.

The Riverside 7th grade girls edged Hardin Northern 13-12.

Jade Copas tallied 12 points and 7 rebounds.

The 7th grade Lady Pirates improve to 1-2.

The West Liberty-Salem 8th grade boys ran past Mechanicsburg 48-13.

Christian Griffith totaled 14 points, Logan Godwin recorded 9 points, Logan Saylor had 8 points, Isaac Reams tallied 5 points, and Dylan Lauck and Isaac Brown each contributed 4 points.

The West Liberty-Salem 7th grade boys beat Mechanicsburg 26-8.

A.J. Kimball totaled 8 points and Payton Knight added 7 points.

The Bellefontaine 8th grade boys beat Benjamin Logan 39-35 in overtime.

Alex Pulfer recorded 13 points and Drey Carter added 11 points.

For Benjamin Logan, Austin McGowan tallied 12 points and 7 rebounds, Kaiden Arn had 6 points, Blaine Worden added 5 points, Alex Rodenberger contributed 4 steals and 4 assists.

The 8th grade Chiefs will travel to Lima Shawnee Tuesday.

The 8th grade Raiders will host Urbana Wednesday.

The Bellefontaine 7th grade boys edged Benjamin Logan 18-15.

Alex Caudill scored 7 points. Kaden Reames added 4 points.

For Benjamin Logan, Kam Allen had 10 points and 5 rebounds. Hayden Kennaw recorded 2 points and 7 rebounds.

The Indian Lake 8th grade boys outscored Tecumseh 43-31.

Logan Evans led all scorers with 16 points.

Trenton Fulkerson tallied 10 points and 5 steals.

The Indian Lake 7th grade boys team fell to Tecumseh 53-9.

The Riverside 8th grade boys lost to Hardin Northern 32-29.

Jayden Burchett recorded 13 points, Devin Frilling had 6 points, and Brody Rhoads added 5 points.

The 8th grade Pirates fall to 1-3 and 0-2 in league play.

The Riverside 7th grade boys beat Hardin Northern 31-28.

Walker Whitaker tallied 17 points and 15 rebounds and Isaiah Lloyd added 6 points and 6 rebounds.

The 7th grade Pirates improve to 2-2 and 1-1 in league play.

Riverside will host Ridgemont Monday.
