Sportscasters Camp wrapping up (Video included)

2014 Sportscasters campersThe 7th WPKO & WBLL Sportscasters Camp wrapped up the week with a visit to V-Teck Communications.  After a week of learing about being a sports broadcaster the students actually got to show off their skills on the radio by hosting a 1-hour sports talk show Friday morning on WBLL.  With Bill Tipple serving as the moderator the hour consisted of debates about the future of LeBron James, Johnny Manziel's impact on the Browns, should the Redskins change their name and who will win the FIFA World Cup this month.  Listen to the talk show here: http://www.peakofohio.com/broadcast/

Watch the campers make their World Cup predictions.

The camp is not yet comlete.  The group of broadcasters are scheduled to call play-by-play of a local baseball game Monday night at 6:00 at Blue Jacket Park on 1390 WBLL "The Bell".

The week-long camp is with the annual Summer Enrichment Academy.  The week was packed with training, information and special guests.  Monday was loaded with play-by-play training.  On Tuesday campers heard advice from author Todd Gongwer, who's book Lead for God's Sake has made a huge impact on several coaches including Ohio State's Urban Meyer.  Wednesday, Cleveland Indians radio personality Jim Rosenhaus shared his expertise in calling baseball games.  Thursday's agenda let the campers show off their knowledge as teams competed with one another in a trivia bowl.

This year's camp was a sellout of 12 students.  6 of them were returning for their 2nd or 3rd years and 6 were new.  Campers as show in the picture were: (back row L to R) Gabrielle Schmidt, Austin Parker, Anthony Snapp, Ethan Parker, Logan Holycross, and Ethan Fulkerson. (Front row L to R) Trenton Fulkerson, Lindsay Stevenson, Liz Stevenson, Ethan Moore, Tyler Roberts, and Joe Eckhoff.

For anyone interested in signing up for next year's Sportscasters Camp or any Summer Enrichment class be looking for information being sent home from school's next February/March.
