Chiefs outlast Red Devils in 14 innings - Baseball and softball finals

Tyler JonesA few area teams hit the diamond Wednesday night.

Varsity baseball:

Bellefontaine won at Tipp City 1-0 in 14 innings.

The game was suspended last Tuesday because of lightning in the middle of the sixth inning.

Sophomore Tyler Jones fired the final 9 innings to earn the win.

He scattered four hits and struck out six.

Connor Burton delivered a single in the 14th inning to score Jarrod Houchin.

The Chiefs are 17-5 overall and 11-3 in the CBC.

Tipp City is 18-7, 12-2.

The Chiefs will host Graham Thursday.

Indian Lake edged Northwestern 8-6.

Starter Josh Smith earned the win.

Freshman Nate Kaffenbarger recorded the save.

Brennon Lump and Alex Jacobs each had three hits.

Smith drove in two runs.

The Lakers are 10-13, 8-6.

Varsity softball:

Bellefontaine edged Springfield Shawnee 3-2 in eight innings at Blue Jacket Park.

The Braves scored a run in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.

Shawnee plated another run in the top of the eighth.

The Lady Chiefs then responded.

Jazmyn Haley smacked a game-winning triple to score Jenna VanHoose and Carley Strzalka.

Layne Mentzer had two hits, including a double.

Sidney Dew earned the win.

Standout Emily McKillip suffered the loss.

Bellefontaine is 11-10 overall and 7-5 in the league.

Shawnee is 21-2, 12-2.

West Liberty-Salem lost to visiting Southeastern 6-3 in eight innings.

The Tigers committed five errors.

Olivia Ames belted a home run.

Rachel Loffing had a double.

Youth:

Farm:

Lakeview #1 Robinson's Asphalt Seal Coating defeated Huntsville #2 11-5.

Lukas Wisener pitched most of the game. He struck out eleven.

Brandon Villa had four hits with a home run.

Wisener ripped two doubles.

Cayden Whitman, Gavin Lones, and Wisener each had three hits.

Tony Thomas smacked a home run.
