The Urbana University women’s and men’s basketball teams are headed in opposite directions as the women won their fifth straight, while the men remain winless after both took on Div. II rival Fairmont State Saturday in Urbana.
Senior point-guard and leading scorer DeVonyea Johnson led the Blue Knight women with 22 points, despite sitting much of the first half with foul trouble. Her 22 points puts her 11th on the all-time scoring list for the Blue Knights, passing former teammate and current assistant coach Andrea Vogel with her 1,024 career point in the game. Katy Barkley had 13 points, while Kate Francisco and Ebany Brumfield each had 11 points for the winners.
The Blue Knights are now 8-1 on the year and a perfect 5-0 in the Mountain East Conference.
The Blue Knight men were knocked off by the Falcons, 70-51, in a game also played on Saturday. The visitors jumped out to a 22-5 lead eaarly in the first half and never trailed. Junior Casey Baker was a bright spot for the Blue Knights, as he notched his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Blue Knights are now 0-9 on the season.
Urbana will host another doubleheader Monday as the Blue Knights play host to Shepard University in more MEC action.
