John Timothy Steinhelfer

John Timothy Steinhelfer, 77, of Bellefontaine, passed away Saturday afternoon, February 10, 2018, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He was born in West Mansfield on August 18, 1940 to the late Donald Frederick Steinhelfer and Margaret Jean (Hufford) Steinhelfer Akey. John was also preceded in death by a son Frederick Guy Steinhelfer.

A veteran of the US Navy, John worked as a railroad engineer for New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail before retiring after nearly 28 years of work. He was a member of the Indian Lake Moose and the American Legion. In his younger days, John played basketball and later loved to hunt and watch sports.

John is survived by a son Timothy Wayne Steinhelfer and a daughter Bonnie (Steve) Forster; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a special friend Laurie Anderson.

Pastor Bryan Meadows will officiate the funeral service on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 1pm at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine, where visitation will be held two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5455 North High Street, Columbus, OH 43214.
