Morris W. Shields, 96, formerly of Jackson Center, passed away Thursday morning, June 26, 2014 at Sidney Care Center, Sidney, Ohio. He was born in rural Bellefontaine on January 17, 1918 to the late John and Norma (Morris) Shields.
He married the former Phyllis A. Leister on February 28, 1943 and she preceded him in death on January 19, 2007. Morris was also preceded in death by two daughters, Marilyn and Susann, a sister Wanda Swartz and a brother Wilber Shields.
A US Army veteran of World War II, Morris was a lifelong farmer and had previously served as a McArthur Township trustee. He was also a former member of the Huntsville School Board. Morris enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and woodworking.
Morris is survived by daughters Norma Jones of Jackson Center and Linda Myers of Russells Point; 7 grandchildren: Nancy Lindsey, Mark Dudgeon, Beth Williams, Kathy Gamble, Vincent Ambos, Jennifer Caldwell, and Cindy Craft; 12 great-grandchildren: Jerry Dudgeon, Hannah Gamble, Abigail Gamble, Molly Gamble, Drayson Gamble, Acel Gamble, Brandy Sealscott, Brooke Sealscott, Mason Williams, Grant Helman, Hope Craft, and Blaine O’Leary; 2 step-great-grandchildren: Chris Vincent and Megan Vincent; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at a later date in Huntsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
