Claude Edward Heintz, 73, of Lakeview, OH, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Dublin Methodist Hospital in Dublin, OH.
Claude was born on February 8, 1941 near Jackson Center, OH to the late Claude O. and Ruth A. Thompson Heintz. On December 3, 1966, he married the former Sylvia “Peach” Carter and she preceded him in death on January 11, 2006. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Carol Shaffer, three brothers, Paul, Roger and Loren, and a brother-in-law, Jack Shaffer.
On July 29, 2012, he married the former Bonnie Cushman Schaefer and she survives along with three daughters, Sandy Jo (Michael) Smith and Jodi (Andy) Hatfield, both of Lakeview, and Mona (Doug) Shepherd-Keith of Anderson, TN, two sons, Jack (Kathy) Shepherd of Bellefontaine, OH, and Jon Heintz of Washington, two stepchildren, Mike Schaefer and Josie Hensel, both of Lakeview, 14 grandchildren, Lucille Smith, Josh Shepherd, Jessica Shepherd, Aaron Diener, Nova Mallary, Vince Plikerd, Jr., Marcus Plikerd, Christian Plikerd, Allen Hatfield, Jon Heintz, Jr., Evie Heintz, Jeanie Heintz, Tricia Heintz, and Tabby Heintz, three step-grandchildren, Scotty Schaefer, Becky Schaefer, and Kristen Hensel, three sisters-in-law, Betty Heintz, Judy Heintz and Cora May Heintz and several nieces and nephews.
Claude was a 1959 graduate of Jackson Center High School. He was a member of the Doyle R. Miller Amvets Post #39, FOE Aeries #3615, Indian Lake Moose Lodge #1533, all of Lakeview, numerous Chamber of Commerce, and Good Ol’ Boys Tractor Club.
Claude grew up on the Heintz Family Farm just outside of Jackson Center. There, he farmed and raced cart horses at the county fair with his brothers. Claude served four years in the Army National Guard. He started his tool and die business in his garage then soon built a factory in Lakeview. He was President and CEO of United Tool and Machine for forty years and just recently retired. Claude enjoyed golfing with his partner, Charlie, and was proud of his hole-in-one he scored at Prairie View Golf Course. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, as well as, fishing, boating, mushroom hunting, deer hunting, camping, smoking meats, and building miniature tractors. We are all very proud of him and his fight with lung cancer. Claude has touched many lives and will always be in our hearts.
Father Harold W. Kist will begin funeral services at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 20, 2014 at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview. Visitation is Thursday, June 19th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire, OH with military honors provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
