Agnes E. Arthur

Agnes E. Arthur, 92, of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday morning, June 10, 2014 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Agnes was born in Logan County on August 11, 1921 to the late William H. and Alice E. (Davis) Ward. She married Ernest Bertell Arthur on April 6, 1947 in Bellefontaine and he preceded her in death on August 26, 1969. She was also preceded in death by a son John William Hone, two grandchildren Ben & Jodi, siblings Elizabeth Ward, Martha Gilbert, Jenny Ledrick, Margaret Gilbert, Dorothy Gilbert, Dan Ward, Charles Ward, Ruth Weldon and Alice Karg; her special friend Ray Ricketts of West Liberty; and her uncle Dan Davis who helped raise Agnes and her siblings.

Agnes is survived by her children Judy Ostermyer, Ruby (Floyd) Brenner both of Bellefontaine, Ray B. (Karen) Arthur of Russells Point, Chuck (Joanna) Arthur of Bellefontaine; step-children Leo Arthur of Florida, Ruth Ann (Larry) Peters and Gerri Allen, both of Bellefontaine; 13 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.

Agnes retired from Bulldog/Siemens after 26 years of work and then retired again at the age of 85 after bartending at the VFW, Eagles and Moore’s Café. She was a member of the American Legion, VFW and was a Golden Eagle member. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, cracking walnuts and taking casino trips. Agnes attended Gretna Brethren Church.

Visitation for Agnes will be held at the Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11 am at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
