David Alan Younkman

David Alan Younkman, 79, of West Liberty, passed away Saturday morning, March 29, 2014 at Green Hills Care Center.

He was born in Ravenna, Ohio on February 18, 1935 to the late Daniel and Beryl (Crooks) Younkman. On June 7, 1958 he married the former Jane Mikesell at the West Liberty United Methodist Church and she preceded him in death on November 10, 2011. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Carol Kutz.

David was a graduate of Ravenna High School and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1957 where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. A US Navy veteran, David grew up in the construction business and worked alongside his father as a general contractor in northeastern Ohio. Later he was a vice-president of Ryan Homes in Pittsburgh before he semi-retired in 1977 and moved his family to Logan County, Ohio where he started managing several farms that he had invested in over the years. During this time he was an active member and former officer of the American Soybean Association and the Ohio Soybean Association. He also continued to develop land and build homes in and around Bellefontaine. David enjoyed traveling, snow skiing and boating. He was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church.

David is survived by his sons, Derek (Jane Riggs) Younkman of Indian Lake and Jon (Kamila) Younkman of Dublin; 4 granddaughters, Brittany, Bethany, Alyson and Amanda Younkman; and a sister Anita (Bill) Ryan of Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania.

Visitation will be held at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, West Liberty on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 4-7 pm where Pastor Lee Ortman will officiate the funeral service on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Macochee Joint Ambulance, 319 Newell St., West Liberty, OH 43357 or the West Liberty Fire Department, 201 N. Detroit St., West Liberty, OH 43357.
