Edward Louis Hayes

Edward Louis Hayes, 69, of Huntsville, OH, and formerly of Englewood, OH, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 8, 2014 at his home.

Ed was born on November 3, 1944 in Dayton, OH, to the late Edgar & Mary L. Hagen Hayes.

On March 14, 1970, he married Karen D. Eberts Barnes at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington DC, and she survives along with two sons, Stuart Rolin Hayes of Tucson, AZ, and Stephen Edward (Monica Viganoni) Hayes of Nelsonville, OH, a grandson, Avian F. Hayes, and a brother, Norman L. Hayes of Centerville, OH.

Ed was a dedicated husband, father, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. In 1962 he graduated from Patterson Co-Op High School, and in 1966 he graduated from Miami University in Oxford, OH, where he was a member of AFROTC. A Captain in the United States Air Force, he served in Vietnam and was a retired Air Force Reserve. He owned and operated Hayes Paint and Decorating in Englewood for 30 years. Ed was an active member of Indian Lake Community Church in Russells Point, OH. He was also a member of Indian Lake Moose Lodge # 1533 in Lakeview, OH and American Legion Post #707 in Englewood. Ed was a year-round recreationalist who enjoyed boating at Indian Lake in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. He enjoyed reading and was a car enthusiast.

Ed lived to serve others. He gave of himself in countless ways to make others' lives easier and better. Many times each day he lent his time, his mind, and his labor to family, friends, neighbors, and strangers. He served his community, church, and country with a passion matched by few. Ed made the world a better place by always giving more than he received.

Reverends John B. Ellington, Jr., Karen Blackburn, and Jim Ellington will conduct a funeral service at 3:00 pm, Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Indian Lake Community Church with visitation from 1-3.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in his name to the Indian Lake Community Church Memorial Fund.
