Landing gear issue causes plane crash

An area pilot was involved in a minor crash at the Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport Saturday afternoon around two o'clock.

The Springfield Post of the State Highway Patrol reports that Stephen Field, 70, of Springfield, attempted to land a 1973 Cessna fixed wing single engine plane without the landing gear extended.

Field was able to land on the plane's belly.

Field and his two occupants were not injured.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident.

The plane was towed from the scene.
