Ackley takes Grand Champion Born and Raised; Show results (Audio & video included)

Standing room only greeted fairgoers eager to see the 2013 Logan County Born and Raised Steer Show on Tuesday evening.

Kyle Ackley took home the title of the Born and Raised Grand Champion.

Though he is experienced with dairy, this was the first year he has raised and shown cattle of the beef variety along with it being his first time participating in the beef competition.

Ackley, 17, is heading into his junior year at Benjamin Logan High School. He says he had high hopes for his steer, but was not expecting the extreme honor.

The judge touched on the animal’s outstanding combination of muscle and bone in addition to its overall eye appeal.

Myers also works with swine and sheep projects. He mentioned the bittersweet emotions from it being his final year.
