Jr. Fair exhibitors combated rain and mud Monday morning to show at the 2013 Logan County Fair Poultry Show.
The poultry show was the first of many livestock competitions to take place during the week.
The event saw many classes and varieties of birds with the largest class being the Commercial Meat Pens. The show was split into two main categories, breeding and market.
Grand Champion in the Commercial Meat Pens class went to Avery Braun. Reserve Grand Champion went to Deanndra Carpenter.
Braun has shown poultry for multiple years, however this is her first time she’s taken the title of Grand Champion.

Addison Rogers took third, Gabriel Van Dyke captured fourth, and Reggie Regula was fifth in Commercial Meat Pens.
Seth Campbell won grand Champion Turkey and Sam Henderson took the Reserve Grand Champion title.
In the bantam show, Alli Cruz was awarded both Grand and Reserve Champion.
Cruz is not new to the poultry spotlight. In addition to the Logan County Fair, she shows in many exhibitions with her breeding and market poultry.
She said the competition continues to be fun from year-to-year.

The ducks category saw Dakota Trout take both Grand and Reserve with her Mallard and Gray.
Geese saw Lucas Hill as Grand Champion with Cody Griffin taking Reserve.
Best of Show Grand Champion went to Garret Horsley with his White Leghorn Pullet. Alli Cruz took the Reserve in the category.
The Large Fowl category included Asiatic, Mediterranean, and American breeds. The winners of each category went on to show for the Large Fowl Overall Champion.
The Large Fowl Overall Champion prize went to Garret Horsley and Reserve went to Jewli Cruz.
The judges mentioned that showmanship proved to be especially difficult because of the exhibitor's knowledge and skill. Categories were split depending on the exhibitor's age on the day of the show.
Senior Showmanship was for exhibitors 16 to 19 years old. Shelbi Henault took the first place trophy and Lucas Hill came in second.
Intermediate Showmanship saw youth from 13 to 15. Addison Rogers captured first and Alli Cruz grabbed second.
Junior Showmanship was made up of youth from 8 to 12 years old. Kelsie Henault was the winner of that competition with Maria Henderson taking second.
Tylor Murray is chairman of the 2013 Logan County Fair Poultry Committee. He has been involved with the group for four years and works hard to improve the show each year.
He said the show numbers were down from previous years, but the skill and knowledge of competitors, as well as quality of birds, was noticeably stronger than before.
