Teen driver injured, cited for rollover accident

A teen driver was injured in a rollover wreck south of Bellefontaine on County Road 1 near Township Road 190 Thursday night around 11:20.

The Marysville Post of the State Highway Patrol reports that a 16-year-old Bellefontaine boy was driving a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire southbound on County Road 1 when he went off the left side of the road, struck the ditch, and overturned.

The unnamed boy was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by Macochee Joint Ambulance District.

Two passengers, a 17-year-old Bellefontaine boy and a 15-year-old Bellefontaine boy, had minor injuries. They were not transported.

No one was wearing their seat belt.

The State Highway Patrol did not release any names because the driver and passengers are juveniles.

The driver was cited for failure to control.

He told troopers that he swerved to avoid a dog in the road.

The Sunfire suffered heavy damage.

Bellefontaine Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
