Drunk driver arrested for hit-skip, bystanders help law enforcement

A New Carlisle man was arrested on multiple charges following an alcohol-related hit-skip crash at the intersection of Route 33 and State Route 274 Wednesday afternoon around 12:30.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office reports that David Sharp (pictured), 48, was driving a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero westbound on 274 when he pulled from the stop sign and struck a 2007 Peterbilt semi operated by David Cooley, 55, of Macy, Indiana. The semi was headed eastbound on 33.

Sharp then fled the scene.

Bystanders boxed his vehicle in on the bridge on State Route 117 just south of Huntsville.

Deputies then took Sharp into custody.

He was charged with OVI, hit-skip, open container, no seat belt, and failure to yield from a stop sign.

After refusing a blood alcohol test, Sharp was lodged in the Logan County Jail.

No one was injured.

Cooley was wearing his seat belt. His semi suffered minor damage.

Sharp's vehicle had moderate damage.
