City man arrested for threatening girlfriend with knife

A city man was arrested after he allegedly threatened his live-in girlfriend with a knife at Brookstone Apartments Tuesday morning around 2:20.

The Bellefontaine Police Department reports that Dwight Howard (pictured), 55, of 500 Gunntown Road, Apt. E12, used a pocketknife to cut the arm of a chair in a bedroom.

Howard then accused his girlfriend, Wendy Wendell, 34, of cheating on him. He threatened to "cut her head off."

Howard suffered a minor cut to his pinky finger when he cut the chair. Police found blood on the carpet and on the bed.

Howard was outside the apartment when officers arrived. He said Wendell was upset because he came home late.

Although Wendell declined to write a statement, Howard was charged with domestic violence and lodged in the Logan County Jail.

The incident happened in front of Wendy's daughter, Cheyenne.

The child told police she was scared because Howard reportedly choked Wendell during a previous argument.

Other than Howard's hand injury, no one was injured Tuesday.

Police recovered the pocketknife for evidence.
