Garage fire quickly contained

A homeowner was able to quickly contain a garage fire at his rural West Liberty residence Saturday morning around 8:30.

The West Liberty Fire Department responded to Carl Newcomer's residence at 5437 Township Road 32 South (near Township Road 30).

Fire Chief John Esch said the fire started when Newcomer was burning weeds near the garage.

The fire damaged an outside wall and a small portion of the attic.

Esch said the fire only caused about $100 worth of damage.

Newcomer used a garden hose to contain the blaze.

Fire crews were on scene for about an hour.

No one was injured.
