Indian Lake 5th grade students completed a rubber band race car project recently.
Students built and tested their rubber band-powered race cars made out of household items during science class. The students learned how potential energy can be converted to kinetic energy.
The project spread across many other subject areas. In math, students had to measure distance and calculate speed. In language arts, the students reflected on what they learned and explained the changes that would be made if they were given the opportunity to build again.
The project ended with a race held in the school gymnasium.
Kaden Harford, Andrew Cox, and Carder Hakes (all three pictured above) were the grand champions.
