The Bellefontaine Board of Education used part of their meeting Monday night to recognize some of their high-achieving students.
Western Intermediate fifth-grader Lauren Carter, Northeastern third-grader Gabby Stolly, and second-grader Alex Houser spoke at the “Leader in Me” Symposium last week in Columbus (pictured left along with Northeastern principal Krista Adelsberger and Western principal Lynda Holycross). They spoke in front of a large group of teachers and educators. In addition, Carter was impressive in a speech given to Rotary.
Whitney Rader and Jacob Dew were honored by the board for being the high school’s February students of the month. Both were recognized for their significant accomplishments both in and out of the classroom.
The board adopted the 2013-14 school calendar. School will start earlier than normal this fall. The first day of school for students will be August 20th. The last day will be May 29th. Superintendent Beth Harman noted that the change in calendar allows the first semester to end during Christmas break. The move will allow high school students to get their end-of-the course testing done before break rather than having to wait an additional two weeks after break.
Two more retirements were announced. The board accepted high school athletic director John Henry‘s resignation effective June 30th. Henry worked 29 years as a teacher and administrator in the district and 30 years overall.
Matt Comstock, associate middle school principal and athletic director, was named to take Henry’s place. Comstock’s athletic director job has been posted. One person will be the principal; another will be the athletic director at the middle school.
High school OGT aide Cherie Cooper resigned for the purpose of retirement. Her last day will be May 30th.
BHS alum Whitney Stolly was hired as a middle school Language Arts teacher. Her first day will August 16th.
Kinsey Harman and Gage Easton were named high school students of the month for March.
