A meeting was held Monday evening at Northeastern Elementary School (pictured) in Bellefontaine for concerned parents about student release.
The meeting gave concerned parents the opportunity to speak with Superintendent Beth Harman and Northeastern Principal Krista Adelsberger about the after school release of their child.
Superintendent Harman comments on the meeting.
The school is not going to make any changes to its current release policy, but is offering individual release as an option for parents to pick up their kids.
On the night of the meeting only two parents had signed up for individual release, which will begin Tuesday at Northeastern.
The topic of student release came about when Jennifer Johnson brought her concerns to the school recently. Johnson is the mother of a kindergartener and 1st-grader at Northeastern. She grew concerned when she would pick up her kindergartener and he was alone outside with his classmates.
Johnson attended the meeting Monday and signed her child up for individual release and feels the option does not do enough for the safety of children being released from the school.
Johnson discusses why she grew concerned.
Parents Donnie and Sara Stewart were at the meeting to express their support for the school and say they do not see a problem with the current student release system.
Donnie and Sara share why they attended the meeting.
