Several cows were killed in a large barn fire in rural Champaign County Tuesday morning around 10:50.
Firefighters from West Liberty, North Lewisburg, and Urbana responded to a structure fire caused by a lightning strike at Stan-Mar-Dale Holsteins Farm, 5077 South Kennard Road, Urbana (near Cable).
West Liberty Fire Chief John Esch said six to ten cows were killed in the large blaze, which destroyed the barn and about 3,000 bales of hay and straw.
Fourteen cows were rescued from the barn, but three of them suffered burns and were treated by a local veterinarian.
Some of the cows avoided the blaze because they were taken to the Ohio State Fair.
The fire melted siding on the farmhouse, which was about 60 yards away.
