Benjamin Logan BOE reviews options for renewal levy (Audio included)

The Benjamin Logan Board of Education conducted a work session Tuesday evening to review options for an upcoming renewal levy.

The district originally passed the levy as an emergency in 1999. The levy went for a ten-year period and was renewed in 2009. The levy is due for renewal in 2019. The levy generates $1,847,965 per year for the district.

The board did not take any action on placing the renewal on the November ballot, but did review two options for running the levy.

The first option would be a straight renewal. This means no additional taxes for taxpayers and would last for another ten-year period.

The second option would be a replacement. The levy would not generate any additional taxes and would make the levy permanent. This means voters would not have to vote on the renewal again. This option would guarantee the district the $1,847,965 each year and would make it a more stable part of the district’s finances.

The Benjamin Logan Board of Education will not make a formal decision on the renewal levy until its next regular monthly meeting on Monday evening at 7 o'clock.

Superintendent Dave Harmon comments on the work session.
