Village of West Liberty still waiting to name new council member (Audio included)

Mayor Greg Hostetler told West Liberty Village Council Monday night that there is a named candidate to fill the vacancy on council created by the resignation of Richard Mally on March 26th. The candidate is seeking approval from his employer before officially accepting the appointment. Hostetler indicated that the person could be approved when council next meets on June 11th.

Council approved an ordinance that will allow the village to annex the driveway adjoining Lions Park and the property where the new water treatment plant is located. Hostetler expects several annexation ordinances to be adopted in the upcoming months.

Historical Society representative Al Park updated council on the Bailey House and Town Hall construction projects. He also told council that on Saturday, June 10th at 2:00 P.M. there will be a gathering at the firehouse to kick off the fundraising efforts for the historic opera house.

Mayor Hostetler discusses several items from the meeting.

Hostetler told council that the village did not receive the grant for the Columbus Street Project funding. The village was hoping that the grant (provided by the Ohio Public Works Commission) would cover 51% of the cost.

Council approved the hiring of Heater Excavating to tear down the old concession stand at Dodge Park. Grass will be grown at the vacated spot. Heater will also dispose of the waste from the removal. They will charge $1,500 for the project.

Street supervisor Bill Detrick asked for and received nearly $56,000 for two separate street repair projects.

Council approved payment to Link Construction for $33,315.55 for work being done on the police building.

The Memorial Day Parade will be May 28th beginning at 2:00 P.M.

Council will not meet on the 28th because of Memorial Day.
