BHS Symphonic Band, Choir, and Concert Band earn Superior Ratings at District Contest (Audio included)

Bellefontaine High School hosted the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) district contests for band and choir over the weekend.

The BHS Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Symphonic Choir all received Superior ratings of 1.

Bands and choirs are scored by the OMEA rating system. They can receive the scores of I, II, III, IV, or V. A score of I is Superior, II is Excellent, III is Acceptable, IV is Poor, and V is Very Poor. In order to qualify for the state level contest, a band or choir must receive a Superior rating of 1.

The songs performed by the BHS Symphonic choir included Cantad Al Senor arranged by Roger Bergs, How Do I Love Thee? by Elizabeth Barrett Browning and music by Bruce W. Tippette, and Hiney Mah Tov arranged by Iris Levine.

Songs performed by the BHS Symphonic Band included The Walking Frog by Karl King, For The Fallen by David Shaffer, and Anthem for Winds and Percussion by Claude T. Smith.

The BHS Concert Band performed Bandology by Osterling, Silver Jubilee Overture by Edmondson, and On the Edge of the Sword by Shaffer.

The BHS Symphonic Choir is under the direction of Stacy Calton and both BHS bands are directed by Jeremy Karg.

Calton comments on the choir's performance and shares her thoughts on the upcoming State Contest.
