Urbana man indicted for hitting school bus in October

Logan County Prosecutor Eric Stewart reports his office indicted James Johnson, 38, of Urbana this week on charges stemming from a accident in October that involved a school bus on Route 68.

Johnson has been indicted on counts of OVI; Operating a Vehicle Under Influence of Listed Controlled Substance or Metabolite of Controlled Substance; Driving Under Suspension; and two counts of Aggravated Vehicular Assault.

Johnson hit an unloaded school bus Route 68 south of Township Road 190 (near Tracemore Lane).

The Logan County Sheriff's Office report that Johnson was driving a 2015 Chrysler 300 southbound on 68 when he went left of center and struck a northbound 2011 Urbana City Schools bus operated by David Deskins of Urbana.

The bus went off the west side of 68 and struck a concrete stone post.

The car went off the east side of 68.

Johnson suffered serious injuries.

He was transported by MedFlight to OSU Medical Center.

Deskins, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured.

His passenger, Brooke Perry, 40, of Urbana, had minor injuries.

She was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by Macochee Joint Ambulance District.

Both vehicles suffered heavy damage.

There were no children on the bus.

Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning at 9:00.
