Drunk driver arrested near city bar

A drunk driver was arrested near a city bar Monday night around 9:05.

The Bellefontaine Police Department reports that Jeffrey Laslo, 54, of Bellefontaine, left the Pink House, 600 Jay Avenue.

He backed his 2003 Dodge Dakota into the intersection of Lawrence Street and Jay Avenue.

An officer on patrol was southbound on Lawrence.

The officer, who did not have a stop sign, stopped to avoid the collision.

Laslo then drove westbound on Jay Avenue.

He nearly sideswiped a parked vehicle on the north side of the road.

The officer stopped Laslo on Jay Avenue.

Authorities smelled alcohol on Laslo.

He admitted to drinking four beers.

Laslo failed field sobriety tests.

He refused a blood alcohol test.

Laslo was charged with OVI and improper backing.

He was released to a sober driver.
