Police quickly solve Moose Lodge break-in; two arrested

Oscar Staton Jr.Two Columbus men were quickly arrested after they broke into the Bellefontaine Moose Lodge, 912 South Detroit Street, Tuesday morning around 1:50.

The Bellefontaine Police Department reports that Oscar Staton Jr., 25, and Kennith Nelson, 23, stole multiple items.

Initially, the two men went to the lodge around 1 a.m.

A witness said the men went to the back door and appeared to feel around the door frame.

Staton and Nelson left in a 2000 Dodge Ram.

Moments later, they returned and parked near the shelter house.

After they drove away, the same witness called police.

An officer on patrol stopped the suspect vehicle in the 300 block of South Main Street.

Staton and Nelson said they were headed to Bucyrus.

Both men were taken into custody and the pickup was towed.

Kennith NelsonAuthorities searched the truck and located three crowbars, tin snips, fabric work gloves, seven unused prepaid cell phones, seven car chargers still in their packaging, and $80 in rolled quarters.

Officers report the security camera by the back door at the Moose Lodge was moved to point up.

The phone line to the business was cut.

There was a broken bottle of Crown Royal near the back door.

A cash register, another bottle of Crown Royal, and a bottle of Jack Daniels were missing.

Video surveillance showed two males with clothing matching Staton and Nelson approached the rear door at 1:03 a.m.

They entered the building about 45 minutes later.

Staton and Nelson were each charged with breaking and entering.

Both men were released from prison this summer.

Staton was convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide.

Nelson was convicted of burglary.

Both cases were in Franklin County.

Staton and Nelson were lodged in the Logan County Jail.
