County woman scammed out of thousands on dating app

A county woman was recently scammed out of approximately $20,000 over the internet.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office reports that a 48-year-old rural Rushsylvania woman met someone on a dating app called Farmers Dating Service in early July.

The victim met a man claiming to be in the Army stationed in Nigeria.

The woman started texting the man.

She believed they were going to get married.

The man convinced the local woman to send her address, last four digits of her social security number, and pictures of her credit cards.

The man also persuaded the woman to buy around $11,000 in gift cards, then send pictures of the cards.

Finally, the victim agreed to purchase approximately $4,000 worth of Apple watches and other merchandise from Kohl's.

The woman mailed the merchandise to Nigeria.

Deputies continue their investigation.
