Ambulance driver causes injury crash on 33 near Indian Lake

An ambulance driver caused an injury crash at Route 33 and State Route 720 Saturday night around seven o'clock.

The Russells Point Police Department reports that Deborah Hamilton was driving an Indian Lake EMS ambulance eastbound on 33 when she rear-ended an eastbound 2001 Chevy Suburban operated by Amanda Salyers of Russells Point.

Salyers was making a right turn onto 720.

The ambulance was transporting a patient to Mary Rutan Hospital.

Because it was a non-emergency transport, the lights and sirens were not activated.

Medic Mark Miller and the patient were transferred to another ambulance and transported to Mary Rutan Hospital.

Two juveniles in Salyers' vehicle were taken to Mary Rutan Hospital.

Salyers had eight occupants in her SUV.

Hamilton was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office, State Highway Patrol, Huntsville EMS, and BMRT squad assisted.
