NEX holds ribbon cutting ceremony; donates to United Way (Audio & video included)

NEX Transport in East Liberty held a ribbon cutting ceremony and check presentation on Thursday at noon.

NEX President Hiroki Matsuoka In 1989, NEX began its legacy as a warehousing operation in East Liberty for an automotive manufacturer as a joint venture between Nippon Express (worldwide logistics and freight forwarding) and Nittsu Shoji (packaging specialist).

The plant originally operated on 82 acres and 100,000 square feet of building space.

After 28 years of growth, NEX now employs 750 people and operates on a total of 994,000 square feet at five locations (623,000 sq. ft. at East Liberty headquarters, 208,000 sq. ft. at three Bellefontaine locations, and 163,000 sq. ft. in Delaware).

The company spent $6 million on a new corporate office and expanded warehouse.

This expansion over the past 18 months led to 200 additional jobs.

In 2016, NEX had a 30% customer increase along with a 19% job increase.

NEX plans to continue its growth with a goal to reach 1.3 million square feet and more than 1,000 associates by 2020.

NEX Vice President of Operations Tod JohnsonNEX has also done things to help out their current associates such as adding a new cafeteria, a fitness room, and a library. The idea for the library is to allow access for employees that have kids with homework to do, but no computer at home.

They have also added themselves to a short list of companies that have donated 6-figures to United Way of Logan County.

NEX presented a check of over $100,000 to United Way Executive Director Dave Bezusko.
