Dog bite seriously injures city boy

A two-year-old city boy suffered extensive injuries when an unknown dog bit him in the face Monday night around 6:30.

The Bellefontaine Police Department reports that Briley Ward of 204 Lawrence Street was playing with his puppy when another dog entered the yard and bit the boy.

Ward was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital, then transferred to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.

He suffered puncture wounds on the right side of his face.

Officers met with Ward's mother, Ashley Fox, 17, in the emergency room.

Authorities then went to 208 Lawrence Street to see if their dogs were involved.

Police continue their investigation.

The case was forwarded to the county dog warden, the health district, and children's services for review.
