Urbana City Council met Tuesday evening and approved authorizing $346,044 for the construction of the sewer extension on East U.S. Route 36 to Robert Rothschild Farm at the corner of 36 and Three Mile Road.
Mayor Bill Bean explained how the sewer extension project will impact the local economy now and in the future.
The total cost of the project is nearly $800,000 with a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awarded to Champaign County Commissioners from the state to pay around $126,000 of the pump station and force main costs.
The balance of the project costs, including the gravity sewer, will be paid from funds allocated in the Sewer Capital Budget for around $218,000.
A significant private portion of the money is being provided by Robert Rothschild Farm.
City of Urbana project administrator Doug Crabill(right) talkedabout how the sewer extension will be done.
Crabill said the project will be completed by October 31, 2014.
Mayor Bean also stated by the end of the project the number of employees at Rothschild Farm is expected to grow from 55 to 71.
Council authorized the Director of Administration to enter into an engineering services agreement with Burgess and Niple, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $9,900 for engineering services during construction for the East U. S. Route 36 Sewer Extension.
In other business at Tuesday’s meeting, council voted to authorize utility-related fees of $3,900 to be charged to the Champaign County Fair for the installation of a new restroom facility.
