Updated: Tank museum coming to West Liberty (Audio included)

West Liberty Council received news Monday that the village will soon be home to a tank museum.

West Liberty was selected out of numerous other towns across the country to become the new home for the American Armoured Foundation Tank Museum. The museum is moving from Danville, Virginia and features the collection of William Gasser. His tank and artillery collection is the largest in the world.

The museum will be located in the former Hobart Factory on County Road 189 near Adriel School.

The new attraction could open by September or October.

Tank Museum General Manager Jamie Shaffner discusses the announcement.

Shaffner also considered Bellefontaine and Urbana. He chose West Liberty because of its small town feel.

Mayor Greg Hostetler gives his thoughts on the museum.

In other business, Council approved Nate Penhorwood and Jebedhia Morris as new firefighters. The hires move the department up to 24 firefighters.

West Liberty Council will meet again on June 23rd at 7:30 pm.
