The Bellefontaine Rotary Club met Monday afternoon at the Friendly Senior Center.
Jay King, owner of Marie's Candies in West Liberty, was the featured speaker.
Winfred King, Jay's father, contracted polio. Jay read excerpts from a book his mother wrote regarding the struggles and challenges the family went through during the days Winfred lived with the horrible disease.
The name of the book is "Faith, the Only Star: A Family's Journey through Challenge to Victory."
The book also describes how Marie's Candies was founded.
Rotary has helped reduce polio cases by 99 percent worldwide since their first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. The Rotary's goal is to eradicate polio worldwide.
Rotarians will host a Club Assembly next Monday at noon.
