Bellefontaine Middle School did very well at the Vex State Robotics Competition in Marion over the weekend.
Reid Gleason, Ryoma Kawakami, Mikal Ravenscraft, and Issiah Taylor competed in three skills trials Friday night and six qualifying rounds on Saturday morning, building alliances with students from around the state.
Bellefontaine finished in fourth place out of twenty in the qualifying rounds to move on to the final competition. During the day, the boys were approached to be a part of different teams.
During the nail biting matches in the afternoon, the team made it through the quarterfinals and semifinals to the final round. Bellefontaine lost the first match, won the second, and lost the third.
Bellefontaine came in second overall with their alliance partners from Grant Middle School in Marion.
The top alliance teams were also from Grant Middle School and they will travel to California in April to the Worlds Competition.
Although the boys were disappointed that they did not come in first, they seemed to move on quickly because on the way out the door, one student asked, “When is the next competition?”
Sandi Chervenak is the advisor of the local team.
