Updated: Postal worker seriously injured in dog bite

A female postal worker was bitten by a dog on the city's west side Thursday morning around 11:15.

The Bellefontaine Police Department reports that Dixie Kopus of West Liberty was delivering a package to Eric Easley's 1204 West Columbus Avenue residence.

A pit bull mixed breed went between the legs of its owner, Tracy Huffman.

The dog bit Kopus on the hand and refused to let go.

Huffman struck the dog with a board before putting her own hands in the dog's mouth to release its grip.

Kopus was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by Bellefontaine Fire and EMS, then transferred to Riverside Hospital in Columbus.

Huffman suffered a minor injury to her hand.

Officers continue their investigation. They're being assisted by the Logan County Dog Warden and Logan County Prosecutor's Office.
