Carter sent to prison for grand theft, Grant labeled sex offender

Five defendants were sentenced and one pleaded guilty before Common Pleas Court Judge Mark O’Connor earlier this week.

Chanc Carter, 25, of Bellefontaine was sentenced to two years in prison for grand theft.

In June, Carter (pictured) was arrested on felony charges of receiving stolen property. He was helped by his girlfriend Aushele Sarver of Lakeview.

Officers began to investigate after receiving complaints of theft from vehicles on Holly Lane in Russells Point.

Various items were taken from multiple vehicles.

A homeowner on East Elliot Road then called and requested a report for several items taken from his home.

Three firearms, a Nintendo Wii, and a Blue Ray disc player were among the items taken.

The complainant stated he had friends over for a pool party and learned that Carter may have been responsible for the thefts.

After a brief investigation, officers went to Sarver’s home.

Authorities found several of the items reported missing from the vehicles along with the Blue Ray player and Nintendo Wii sitting in the living room.

The firearms were found under the bed he was sleeping in.

Donald Grant, 34, of Kenton, was sentenced to forty-two months in prison and labeled a tier two sex offender for gross sexual imposition.

Justin Crawford, 27, of Bellefontaine was sentenced to the West Central Community Based Correctional Facility, five years community control, and ordered to pay a $500 fine, court costs, attorney fees and restitution for burglary and grand theft.

Christopher Mundy, 32, of Bellefontaine was sentenced to five years community control, a six month license suspension, family treatment court, and ordered to pay a $250 fine, court costs, and attorney fees for trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs.

Kathy Puckett, 29, of Bellefontaine was sentenced to three years community control, eighty hours community service, and ordered to pay a $250 fine, court costs, and restitution.

Melissa Keeton, 40, of Medway pleaded guilty to theft. A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing is scheduled for February 3rd.
