One could say that Rocky Kelly has the Christmas spirit.
All you have to do is drive by his house at 3165 County Road 55 at the southeast corner of the intersection of CRs 10 and 55 to notice it.
There you will encounter dozens of characters, from the Grinch to Kris Kringle, with everybody in between thrown in for good measure.
Kelli and I noticed Mickey Mouse, Winnie-the-Pooh, Snoopy in various incarnations, Scooby and Scappy, and scores of others characters, both real and fictional, all appropriately dressed for the season. By looking closely, Santa can be seen about to do left turns in the Lowe's #48 car, Jimmie Johnson apparently having been naughty this past year. This is in addition to every tree in sight being festooned with lights covering the full spectrum, and a landing strip for the Jolly Old Elf and his reindeer, leading right up to the house.
Tom Stephens interviews Rocky Kelly about his spectacular Christmas display
Kelly said that he has over 160 air-blown inflatables up this year, out of the 300 or so he owns. He said that he started the displays eight years ago. He started small, but confessed that the displays have doubled each year. He was shooting for 175 this year, and has plans to meet or exceed that goal next year.
Given the house’s location, the scope of Kelly’s efforts don’t hit you until you happen to get close, but what a scene it is once you lay eyes on it. Travelers headed west on CR 10, especially, get the full effect of the spectacular display just as they pop over the hill a quarter-mile from the CR 55 intersection. Also photos fail to capture the full scope. This is one of those things that has to be seen in person to appreciate.
The recent winter storm which brought heavy rain and wind wreaked havoc on many of the displays and Kelly has been working almost around the clock to repair and service the damaged displays. But as of Tuesday afternoon, a quick drive around the property showed that all 160 inflatables were up and running.
Kelly intends to keep the display up through the holidays, and invites all to drive by and enjoy. He did, however, remind visitors that if you stop to take pics (and no one cares if you do), be respectful of other drivers as both CR 55 and 10 support a lot of traffic.
