Saturday, April 12 2014 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
The Logan County Master Gardener Volunteers and OSU Extension, Logan County will be hosting a “Sensible v. Senseless Pruning Practices” workshop on April 12, 2014, in cooperation with the Logan County Commissioners, the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District and the Bellefontaine City Shade Tree Commission. The event will be held at the OSU Extension Office located at 1100 South Detroit Street, Bellefontaine from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm with offsite pruning demonstrations at Southview Park beginning at 1:00 pm. There will be an hour lunch break for participants to get lunch on their own and meet back at the park.
This workshop will allow an understanding of what controls a plant’s growth, which then dictates what and where to prune. We will discover some simple sensible principles to help with those though make or break pruning decisions. We will also become enlightened on how to avoid committing the most common senseless pruning offenses.
The featured speaker is Erik Draper, Associate Professor and Extension educator with Geauga County Extension. As an OSU Extension Commercial Horticulture educator for 19 years, Erik has either seen or made every type of pruning cut possible. His current research includes how the ornamental aesthetic profiles of crabapples determine their use in Ohio landscapes. He also teaches arborists, nurserymen and fruit growers how to develop and refine their plant diagnostic skills.
Registration fee for the workshop will be $25.00 due by April 4, 2014. Checks can be made payable to OSU Extension. For more information, registration forms and other questions please visit logan.osu.edu or contact OSU Extension at 937-599-4227.
