Jubilee Mennonite Church invites the community to a performance of The Pasture: A Tale of Just Food at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20.
The Pasture, Mad River Theater Works' new play, combines music, humor, and a thoughtful look at questions of food justice and sustainability. The play is an allegory set in the future, at a time in which food production has become completely industrialized and is controlled by a corporation called The Process. It chronicles the journey of a girl named Annapurna in her quest to learn about real, homegrown food. She meets new friends along the way, and the story ends on a hopeful note.
"Our congregation has a strong interest in exploring how we connect our faith with everyday choices we make about food," said Pastor Tony Doehrmann. "We're excited to see how this play will inspire future discussion and activities."
Appropriate for all ages, the play will last for about 50 minutes and will be followed with a discussion session and a meal provided by the church. The four-member cast creates the production's rollicking music as they accompany vocals on guitar, bass, accordion, and trombone. A freewill offering will be taken, with all proceeds going to help offset the theater company's costs.
